Dancesport is the sport of dancing. It originated as the sport of ballroom dancing and has grown to include many forms of dancing. Since I am active in ballroom dancesport competition, this site is devoted to only ballroom dancesport. In sports, athletes engage in competition with other athletes as a gauge to determine how well they are performing. This page is devoted to the Athletes of Ballroom Dance, and will evolve into a place that will give you all the information you need about Ballroom Dance Competition.
Whether you are new to ballroom dancesport or are actively engaged in the sport, this site is dedicated to be your one point of reference. Our aim is to be able to answer as many questions as possible and provide links to different organizations and businesses that offer a value to this sport.
Since this is my site, it will surely be biased toward the businesses of which my friends and I trust and are most familiar. This does not mean I won't consider including other links and references in this sport of which I am not familiar.
If you believe I should include a link or other material on this site, please feel free to suggest it. On the other hand, if you have concerns about something on this site, please bring it to my attention. Mistakes happen and things get misinterpreted.
What you will not find on this site, is mention of any instruction. It is my intention to avoid giving preference to an instructor or studio. It is my belief that competitions are good enough advertisement for instructors and coaches. There are as many styles of dancing as there are dancers. It is up to each person to determine which style is most pleasing.
Any photos used on this site have been provided free of charge for my use. The more photos I get, the more often I can change them and the more interesting it will be for many people, especially those that are new to the sport or are friends and family that would like to see what it's all about.
It is also worth noting here, that all the competitions listed are NDCA competitions. Since I have not, so far, attended any USA DanceSport (formerly known as USABDA) events, I do not include any references to USA DanceSport rules or regulations. I do, however, have a link to USA DanceSport. Most of your questions about competition can be found in the NDCA Rules and Regulations. It outlines every aspect from the size of the floor to the costumes that may be worn. |
